Misread as 10 mg if the decimal point is not seen.

0.5 mg

Misread as 5 mg.

Always use the zero before a decimal when the dose is less than a whole unit.

Central Supply

Supplies are stored on each unit in a visual inventory control system storage cabinet, which is called a Kanban. The system is operated by logging into the EPIC charge section and scanning items on the “pink” shelves to charge them to the patient. Items on all other shelves may be used as needed without charging to the patient. Once the last item in a bucket is used, the bucket should be placed on the top of the cabinet for central supply to restock.

New Products

In 2021 we converted to the new Plum360 ICU Medical Pumps. They are dual channel smart pumps with an electronic drug library that is customized to clinical areas. Online training is available. Password to access in-service videos for the Plum 360 ICU Medical with MedNet is Plum360ShowcaseClick here for a Plum360 Quick Reference Card.

Please review before clinical hours that would include use of the pumps.

Nursing and Patient Resources

Electronic Resources

This is a fantastic resource for your students to use while on campus to look up evidence based practice and much more. Follow this path on any in-house computer: SharePoint - Departments - Education Resource Center - UpToDate / Ovid - Nursing Reference Center.

Patient Education Reference Center

Hundreds of patient education sheets from disease processes, radiology tests, to discharge teaching.

SharePoint - Departments - Education Resource Center - Baptist Nursing Online - UpToDate / Ovid

SharePoint

SharePoint is the intranet for Baptist Health Systems. It is available through an icon on each in-house computer. Most policies and procedures are available on SharePoint and many other resources also. We encourage Faculty/Students to access SharePoint for information and guidance.

Nursing Policies and Procedures are available on the left side of the page under Policy Tech – MBMC Policies.

Some clinical policies that affect more areas than nursing may also be found on the left side of the page under Policies, Procedures & Guidelines - Corporate. For example, blood administration and the restraint policies.

The materials are printable; however they remain property of Mississippi Baptist Medical Center and are for reference only.
